Gerber Mini Ridge

Gerber Mini Ridge

A nicely-done version of a KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid) knife, but with a big flaw. The blade is exposed on one side, protected by the slightly-protruding edge of the handle. The blade is held in the open position by a portion of the handle that acts as a spring, similar to a liner-lock. In order to keep the blade safely in place when closed, the mechanism, which uses a small bearing near the pivot, has to be fairly tight. This makes it pretty difficult to open with one hand, since the handle itself is only slightly thicker than the blade. I simply can't open easily with my thumb, even after some lubrication and exercising it quite a bit so it would wear in and loosen up. If you don't mind having to open it with both hands or if you need a money clip knife, this is a good choice. The straight edge is actually very handy in a knife with such a small blade. The quality of the construction is very good.
